How to Use AI for Cold Outreach Without Sounding Like Spam
Monthly AMA #1: two recruiting pipelines, reaching small-business owners, researching health creators before you start, and growing on Substack.
How do you use AI to write to clients, candidates, or business owners without sounding like every other automated message? This is a recap of a live AMA where four members asked about AI outreach for recruiting, selling AI services to small businesses, researching creators before starting a business, and growing a Substack. Each answer starts with AI research on the field, then on the person, and ends with a message a human reads and sends.

I get outreach way too often. Tool founders, agencies, recruiters. There are so many that I can’t keep track, and most of the time I don’t know how to respond. If I said yes to every ask, every article I write for Build to Launch would be about someone else’s product.
But a few struck me. One got me on a call with someone I had never met. Another I still remember, even though I said no to the job. When I looked at them together, they all shared the same pattern.
This month, premium members asked me different questions that all came back to that pattern:
How do you get someone to say yes?
So this AMA goes deep on it.
Here are this month’s questions:
The recruiter wants two AI outreach systems, one to win clients and one to engage candidates, and neither should feel like spam.
The AI seller sells AI to small-business owners with $1 million to $2 million in revenue and wants to book calls with them.
The health creator wants to research creators in her field deeply before she starts her business.
The Substack writer wants to know how to grow on Substack.

The Recruiter: Two Outreach Systems That Don’t Feel Like Spam
The question, close to the member’s words: “I’m an independent recruiter. I want to build two AI-assisted outreach systems, one for winning clients and one for engaging candidates. How would you build it and keep it from feeling like spam?”
My answer had six steps: research the field, map where clients and candidates are, build the two pipelines, find where AI helps, make the drafts sound like you, and set guardrails.
The step most people skip is the first one. Before you write to anyone, find out what their field looks like right now, and test your own guesses against it. Every answer in this AMA starts there.
I'd love for you to see the rest. The full answers are for paid members, so if this one helped, consider upgrading. Inside:
